Random acts of kindness come in all forms and can be performed for individuals, groups both large and small as well as doing something for yourself.  Our list is simply a sample of ideas that you can use to start creating your own way to bring joy to the world.

For Individuals

Planned Acts

Planned acts are sometimes easier for people to do as they allow you a little more time to plan and ensure you have what you need. It also allows you to select the specific bit of kindness for a specific person making it just that much more personal.

Simple Acts Throughout the Day

The most common ideas are simple things one can do as you go about your day. Holding a door open for someone, lending a hand with a heavy load, treating the person behind you to a coffee. The key to success is simply being aware of others around you and noting what they may need as you go about your day.  The benefits are many and your own happiness will improve as well.

There is also the group act where you and your friends team up to spread some kindness.  Singing a song or hosting a meal. Handing out flowers to everyone who enters your office lobby, or giving away inspirational fortune cookies as you all walk down the street. Maybe it's just something simple as a flash mob shoveling snow in a neighborhood.

Groups can be defined in many ways. There are fixed groups like your team or your club or a group of coworkers. There are geographical groups like everyone in a park on a certain day or all the people on your bus to work.  A random act of kindness for a group has the added benefit of brining that group of people together over a common experience.

It's Ok To Be Kind to Yourself

It is very common to forget to take care of oneself but how can you have energy for others if you don't bring kindness into your own day?  We encourage everyone to treat themselves as they treat others. Take an extra moment to spend time with your family is kind to them but equally kind to you.  Find something simple to treat yourself to when you are feeling stressed. And remember, the gift of time for oneself can often be the greatest gift you can give.
